Early Childhood Center
As a long-time member of the Mid-Island Y JCC, Melanie joined the Early Childhood Center as its Director in 2016. With over 15 years in the field of Education, in both the classroom and in school and camp administration, Melanie’s diverse background also includes Special Education. Over the years she has worked with children from ages 6 weeks to 12 years, spanning across a variety of cultures and populations. Her goal is to constantly grow and adapt the programs to fit the needs of an ever-changing community, while never losing sight of what is important. “Maintaining a warm and loving atmosphere for our students is always of the utmost importance.”
Before becoming Assistant Director of the Mid-Island Y JCC Early Childhood Center, Mary received a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education and Behavioral Studies from the University of Hartford. She taught in preschools in New York, Connecticut and California. Her classroom experience ranges from Ones through Pre-K but she has specialized in working with 2-4 year olds for the majority of her career.
Jean has been a part of the JCC family for the past 17 years. She has a BA in communications, and a CDA in Infant/Toddler Development. Both of her sons have been MIYJCC preschoolers, and are now Second-Home Daycare and Camp staff members. Jean is one of our Early Childhood classroom teachers and has taught in every EC age group.
Rebecca has been teaching in our Early Childhood Center for over 14 years. She holds a Master's degree in Elementary Education. Previously, Rebecca was one of our early childhood teachers and was also a Supervisor for Camp Adler inclusion day camp. Rebecca has been part of the MIYJCC family since being a camper here in 6th grade. Her children have attended camp here since they were 4 years old and now work for our Second Home Daycare and Summer Camp.
Marcy has been part of the Mid-Island Y family for almost 10 years. Starting in Health & Fitness, and then working on our agency’s special events, Marcy has now become a member of the Early Childhood Center’s office staff. Marcy has a BA from SUNY Albany, two sons and a husband who can be seen all around the Y!
