360° of Core Focus is what I like to describe as hitting the core from all angles. When it comes to core strengthening, just doing your basic crunches is not enough. You need to hit your center from 360° around the midsection of your body.
The muscles of the core are complex and include more then just the “abs”. There are muscles that surround the entire midsection from front to the back of your body. The actions of these muscle are to compress, depress, flex, bend and rotate the center of your body. If you are focusing on the front part of your core only, strengthening the “abs”, than you are possibly causing imbalances to occur in your center. This creates weaknesses and possible injuries to occur. In order to keep the core balanced, strong and working together, you must pay attention to all of those muscles surrounding your midsection.
What I like to do is create core-focused workouts that include all of these muscles. The way I do this is by applying exercises from 4 different positions — supine (face up), side lying (right/left), and prone (face down). By doing exercises from these various positions you are encouraging all muscles of the center to work and strengthen.
