Black Bean Vegetarian/Vegan Burger

Serves 10

I am so impressed with the combination of ingredients and spices in this delicious burger. I play around with recipes – that’s what I do for fun (one of my hobbies). This burger is a wham bam thank you mam, especially for the vegetarian AND vegan lover. Angela Liddon – Oh She Glows inspired me with her recipe. Grateful! It calls for a quite a few items so plan ahead – create your mis en place (everything in it’s place), making sure you have every ingredient measured and ready to go.


  • 3 tbsp ground flaxseed – place in ¼ cup water and allow it to thicken for 5-10 minutes

  • 1 can (15 oz) black beans – wash and drain

  • 1 cup grated carrots

  • 2 garlic cloves minced

  • ½ cup onion finely chopped

  • ½ cup ground pumpkin seeds

  • ¾ cup rolled oats grounded into flour – I use my mini blender

  • ½ tbsp. EVOO – extra virgin olive oil

  • 2 tbsp tamari soy sauce

  • 1 tsp chili powder

  • 1 tsp oregano

  • 1 tsp cumin

  • ¾ tsp salt – sea salt of Himalayan salt

  • Black pepper to taste

What’s next:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees

  2. In a large bowl mash the black beans – leave some beans in full figure.

  3. Add and mix the rest of the ingredients into the bowl with the beans.

  1. Wet hands and shape the mixture into 10 patties. Form a ball than pat down on a baking sheet covered with parchment paper.

  1. Bake the burgers for 15 minutes than turn over and bake for another 15 minutes.

  2. Place the burger in between a bun bedecked with your fave veggies or serve the burger covered with guacamole and macro greens – that’s how we do it! Make it your own creation!
